For use within explosive plants
Description:
In many branches there exist explosive environments in manufacturing and following processes. To assure a preferably high level of safety in these areas, there exist conditions in terms of laws, orders and norms. For the use in these areas, there are Ex modules that are endorsed intrinsically-safe sensors and actuators being in zone 1 or 2 of explosive plants.
Area of application
The Ex modules are available to the automation of chemical plants as appropriate operating supplies. They are applicable for applications in the measurement-, control- and regulation technology. Areas of application:
Areas of application:
-
Chemical/petrochemical industry
-
Gas industry
-
Offshore industry
-
Transportation (e.g. tankers)
-
Automotive engineering (e.g. at varnishing)
-
Energy supply, energy distribution etc.
-
Generating plants
-
Special engineering (e.g. printing machines, cleaning machines)
Benefit
The igniting protection type intrinsically-safe offers following advantages to the user:
-
Easy interchangeability of intrinsically-safe equipment during the business
-
Easy measurement and calibration of the measuring section during the business
-
Working in intrinsically-safe energized loops without stop of the plant
-
No complex case execution (e.g. compression-proof encapsulation) necessary
-
Linking of intrinsically-safe equipment of different manufacturers possible
-
Approved igniting protection type in chemical industry
Design and functions
The main function of the digital Ex modules is the separation of the intrinsically-safe loops of the Ex field and the non intrinsically-safe internal loops of the automation plant.
The Ex digital input modules transform the level of the external binary signals of the intrinsically-safe equipment of the Ex field in an internal level of signals of the automation plant.
The Ex digital output modules transform the internal level of signals of the automation plant in external binary signals of the intrinsically-safe equipment of the Ex field.
Ex digital input/output modules are “appropriate electrical equipment” of the igniting protection type intrinsically-safe (term [EEx ib] IIC according to DIN EN 50020). You get next to intrinsically-safe ones also non intrinsically-safe loops.
-
Same systems engineering as the other modules of S7-300
-
Galvanic separation of the module
-
Confusion safety through coding
-
Supply of the sensors and actuators through the module
-
Direct wiring of the inputs and outputs of the modules without a separating switch amplifier or transmitter feed unit
-
Different wiring of the software possible
-
Diagnosis capable modules
-
Reduced planning, installation and documentation effort
Operation also with ET 200M possible with connection to all SIMATIC automation systems and as norm slave to all PROFIBUS DP networks.
