Description

In many branches there exist explosive environments in manufacturing and following processes.

To assure a preferably high level of safety in these areas, there exist conditions in terms of laws, orders and norms.

For the use in these areas, there are Ex modules that are endorsed intrinsically-safe sensors and actuators being in zone 1 or 2 of explosive plants.

Area of application

The Ex modules are available to the automation particularly of chemical plants as appropriate operating supplies. They are applicable for applications in the measurement-, control- and regulation technology.

Design and functions

The main function of the analog Ex modules is the separation of the intrinsically-safe loops of the Ex field and the non intrinsically-safe internal loops of the automation plant.
The Ex analogl input modules transform the analog signals of the intrinsically-safe equipment in digital values for the following working.

The Ex analog output modules transform the digital signals of the automation plant in analog signals being necessary for the process.
Ex analog input/output modules are “appropriate electrical eqipment” of the igniting protection type intrinsically-safe (term [EEx ib] IIC according to DIN EN 50020). You get next to intrinsically-safe ones also non intrinsically-safe loops.

S7-300 Signal modules

Description

Digital actuators and sensors can be connected to a SIMATIC S7-300 via digital modules. The extensive range of modules allows the most suitable signal module to be selected in each case.

Area of application

Digital input/output modules contain digital inputs/outputs for the automation system. Digital sensors and actuators can be connected to the automation system via these modules. Switches and 2-wire proximity switches (BEROs) can be connected to input modules, for example. Output modules are suitable for connection of solenoid valves, contactors, small motors, lamps and motor starters.

The use of digital input/output modules provides the user with the following advantages:

    since almost any combination of modules is possible, the number of inputs/outputs can be matched to suit the task in hand. Superfluous investments no longer exist

Compact design 
The rugged plastic housing features:
• Green LEDs for displaying the signal states at the inputs/outputs
• Slot for the front connector, protected by the front cover
• Labeling area on the front cover


Easy assembly
The modules are mounted on DIN rails and connected to adjacent modules via bus connectors. There are no slot rules, the input addresses are determined by the slots.

When used in the ET 200M distributed I/O station together with active bus modules, the modules can be hot-swopped during operation without affecting the other modules.

User-friendly wiring

The modules are wired by means of a front connector. When they are first plugged in, a coding element clicks into place so that the connector will only fit into modules of the same type. When the module is replaced, the front connector can be used in its fully-wired state for a new module of the same type.

Function modules are intelligent modules that independently execute the technological tasks like counting, measuring, cam control, PID control and motion control. Thus they reduce the load on the CPU.
They are used when a high level of accuracy and dynamic response is required.

Intelligent counter module for counting tasks

 

FM 350-1

The intelligent FM 350-1 counter module has one counting channel for up and down counting, and is an excellent choice for universal high-frequency counting tasks up to 500 kHz.
It also features measuring functions for speed, frequency and period length. In distributed configurations with S7-400 or WinAC RTX, the FM 350-1 supports isochrone mode.

The FM 350-2 counter module, by contrast, is an 8-channel counter module for universal counting and measuring tasks up to 20 kHz.
It can be used in the SIMATIC S7-300 and in the ET 200M (with S7-300/S7-400 as master).
